Every write-up on the web seems to be just text from the company's site I don't see any end-users discussing it. Lastly there's PTS-DOS, a russian/german clone of MS-DOS which looks impressive on paper and seems to be aimed specifically at the industrial sector. But I was so unimpressed with the parent organization's let's sue the whole world attitude of recent years, that using any product even distantly affiliated with Caldera/SCO is not my first choice. It had a decent reputation back in the day, arguably even better than MS/PC-DOS. Then there's DR-DOS or OpenDOS or whatever it's called this days.

But the live CD I played around with was so buggy - locked the machine tight every time I tried to access a floppy - that I didn't even try to do anything useful with it. But is there a better more current way of doing it ?

I could, of course, just use a Win98SE CD to create a stripped-down command-line only Win98 system, which would essentially be MS-DOS 7. But with lack of FAT32 support, I'm loathe to buy a new 120GB hard drive and slice it into 2GB partitions. My preference back in the day was IBM PC-DOS 7. What's the best DOS to use these days for older DOS-based applications? I want to put together a DOS computer specifically to support some older software such as Siemens LADDER90 and Westinghouse NumaLogics.
